Richard Kaplenig
on stage

Kaplenig Cover

The book shows current oil paintings by Austrian painter Richard Kaplenig. Kaplenig is an attentive observer of his surroundings. He is particularly interested in those little everyday things, things that receive so little attention, things that people notice only in passing but that are useful; he forcefully rips them from their familiar contexts, shines the spotlight on them, isolated and ginormous, thus providing the viewer with new and perplexing insights into them.

Über dieses Produkt

The book shows current oil paintings by Austrian painter Richard Kaplenig. Kaplenig is an attentive observer of his surroundings. He is particularly interested in those little everyday things, things that receive so little attention, things that people notice only in passing but that are useful; he forcefully rips them from their familiar contexts, shines the spotlight on them, isolated and ginormous, thus providing the viewer with new and perplexing insights into them.

Technically perfect and usually underlaid with fragments of maps, he places his motifs on an open, empty stage. Cool and sober, superficially governed by objectivity, these objects recorded with exact perspectives develop their own corporeality, simultaneously taking on their own aesthetic value. Kaplenig elevates his subject matter to the status of cult objects. They appear simple, beautiful, graceful and desirable.
