About the product

The “Beehave” project stems from an initiative by Martina Millà, Program Director at the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, and focuses on honeybees and their products, such as honey and wax, in relation to art and our society. Exhibitions held first in Barcelona and subsequently at the Kunsthaus Baselland in Switzerland examine the specific urban and legal contexts of urban beekeeping within the scope of artworks and the museum context as well as in the public space.

The project, which poses important questions on the interaction between bees and people and our understanding of the role bees can play for our society, addresses the global threat to the bee population, among other things. It is only in the last few years that the topic has come to the attention of a wider public. This catalog documents the contemporary works presented in the “Beehave” exhibition, as well as works by artists such as Joseph Beuys, Meret Oppenheim and Joan Miró.
