About the product

It is hard to resist the appeal of the direct face-to-face encounter with Ling Jian’s largescale portraits. Uniforms, weapons, sometimes vulgar and often surreal elements such as bunny ears sometimes complement sometimes oppose the beauty and positioning them on the set back from cultural revolution era to a modern media society. Having lived in Europe and China, Ling Jian had the opportunity observing each system and happenings from the outside and the inside alike.

He developed a technique of combining hyper-realistic portraying and diffuse elements, the artist is revealing a high aesthetic standard. This monograph coinciding with his major retrospective at Gana Art in Seoul in June 2014 spans the artistic creation of Ling Jian’s oeuvre over the past two decades. Ling Jian was born in Shandong Province, China. He lives and works in Berlin and Beijing.
