About the product

Care work is generally considered to be a bothersome appendage to the fact of being a human being: as a feminized low-wage sector in the field of geriatric care, as what is known as a career break for maternity or paternal leave, or as sex work, which was once thought of as immoral.

Activities which fall into the field of care are underpaid and underappreciated and yet they are still the interpersonal cement which binds our societies together. In the exhibition TechnoCare, Kunstraum Niederoesterreich looks at the chasm that is opening up between the relevance of care and its marginalization. This kind of chasm provokes the question of how such a situation can be dealt with. With this in mind, TechnoCare uses technological and aesthetic approaches to examine the attempts at communicating “care,” attempts that have gained momentum in present-day artistic praxis.
