“Active Threads”, the book accompanying the eponymous exhibition, is devoted to the political aspects inherent in contemporary textile art. Eight artists challenge the often-cited metaphor of the social fabric. They address social ruptures, geopolitical conflicts, overt post-colonial wounds, along with examples of civil protest and motifs of fan culture. In-depth essays and extensive texts on all participating artists describe the role textiles can play as catalysts of social and cultural processes.
