An exhibition catalogue as a color chart to be opened like a fan and rearranged: For the exhibition “Farbe ist Programm” the Bundeskunsthalle is presenting a unique collectors’ item, conceived and designed by the artist Liam Gillick. The book examines the question as to what role color plays in our life in the context of social space. Experts in brain research, color theory, astrophysics or cosmetic surgery take the works on display as the point of departure for inspiring and informative excursions into their respective fields of work. Petra Gerster, for many years the moderator of the German news program “heute,” recounts anecdotes about the green screen in the ZDF news studio. The writer Senthuran Varatharajah has written a galvanizing poem about Germany. And the Goldene Bar composed a drink for the Bundeskunsthalle that imitates the paintings of Helen Frankenthaler. The exquisite article comes in the format of an LP record and opens into a circle. It contains the entire world of colors for browsing, touching, and dreaming. And standing upright in the accompanying slipcase, it embellishes each and every table.
