In 1977, the artist from Dornbirn known as FLATZ is still a young protagonist in the international art scene and is eager to establish his art as well as himself. FLATZ uses every opportunity, when meeting up with other artists whom he considers to be interesting, to record himself together with them by means of the SX-70 Polaroid camera that he always carries along. This is the origin of the series “Künstler Jäger” (“Artist Hunter”) consisting of 120 Polaroids made between 1977 and 1981. The book designed by FLATZ for this series is a journey in time back to the art scene of the 1970s and 1980s and features names that continue today to radiate great significance in the art world. The pictures are respectively signed and dated by the portrayed artists, among whom are Gerhard Richter, Lawrence Weiner, Marina Abramović/Ulay, Laurie Anderson, Sigmar Polke, and VALIE EXPORT. The textual contributions to this extraordinary and unique work come from Verena Kaspar, Sandra Kratochwill, and Reinhard Kannonier.
