The Karlsplatz is one of the most important transport nodes and one of the most important cultural gateways in Vienna – making it predestined for art in the public space. In the course of the architectural redesign, an international competition was announced by KÖR, Kunst im öffentlichen Raum GmbH. 9 international artists were invited to create a work of art reflecting the transitory nature of the area and to redesign the corridor as an art passage. All competition contributions are presented in detail with texts, plans, sketches and image material. After the jury’s decision, the wall painting by Ernst Caramelle will be implemented in the 70-metre-long corridor of the Karlsplatz Art Passage.
