About the product

“My art is fueled by my real observations, experiences and discoveries, and on that basis I develop ideas and concepts,” affirms Austrian artist Judith Huemer. This publication, “Selected Works 2008–2018,” presents her photographs and video works from the last ten years, in which Huemer has striven to visualize the convergence of art and life. In her works, everyday objects are usually visible, although the artist alienates these through a process of abstraction. Through technical possibilities of reworking the photographic medium—for example, by turning the finished shot or selecting the relevant crop—Huemer deprives the subject of its usefulness.

Colors also play an essential role in Huemer’s creativity: she often works with bright, colorful tones and occasionally picks up on kitsch elements. In her works, the artist deals with culture, origins and home—with things that are, as she puts it, “always said like that” and “always done like that.” The publication presents Huemer’s works and exhibition views, which are supplemented by multiple essays and an interview with the artist.
