Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Niederösterreich 1988–2018

Art projects have been realized in public spaces in Low- er Austria since the 1980s. Austrian and international artists are invited to address current social issues as well as the crimes of the Nazi period. The works that take shape in the towns, villages or landscapes of Lower Austria often represent controversial cultural-political positions, and thus play an important role in society by way of a contribution to public discourse. The publication “Landmarks. Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Niederösterreich” (“Landmarks. Art in the Public Space in Lower Austria”) provides images and texts covering a representative selection of both temporary and permanent works of art arranged according to locations and themes. Covering a broad arc from earlier to current projects and encompassing designs for public plazas and monuments, as well as performance and participatory projects, the book presents the region of Lower Austria as an important place of contemporary art with high artistic and social relevance.
