About the product

„Matthias Böhler’s works are transparent as products of a production process, yet less in the sense of the traces left by their production, and more in the way in which they can be interpreted as something done. The smooth appearance, clean look of modernity is relinquished in favour of transparency, through which Böhler’s works can be interpreted less as authoritarian artworks and more as the products of a subjective approach, in which human wishful thinking is activated by representation and directly displayed. The practice is thus subjected to a permanent fetish, which exploits the proximity of desire and alienation that arises out of the effect of disappointed expectation. And yet Böhler constantly displays these wishes, intellectual concepts and emotional impulses as worth activating in order to use them against themselves in a challenging productive approach and thus as a starting point for a consciously different form of artistic practice.“ (Jonathan Baumgärtner)
