In the "Bauhaus Year", weaving was brought to the attention of the public in a fresh and new way. Thus, this ancient technique is rediscovered as artistic medium for the present. In her work, Renata Brink, artist and professor for textile at the HAW Hamburg, has addressed hand weaving and its complex possibilities as far as deconstruction in its artistic relevance and traced the textile material in art processes. For this publication, she has selected 19 dobby weave fabrics from her oeuvre, which are presented in the book in a choreography of color, structure and material. The original-sized cutouts allow the creation of a sensual idea of materiality and at the same time draw attention to the abstraction of the color composition. In addition, the weave creates finest patterns, embedded as a subtle color appearance in the flexible surface in a drawing. Not the color on canvas, but the thread as color is the medium that shows its infinite possibilities for giving image and space.
